Located in the Nordwestmecklenburg district in Germany, the Bobitz Elementary School celebrated its official reopening in 2024 with a new atrium and expansion.
As part of the revamp, the school required comfortable acoustics across its common and circulation areas. A combination of Rockfon acoustic wall panels, ceiling baffles, and ceiling islands are installed all across to ensure acoustic comfort for years to come while contributing to a modern and dynamic interior expression.
Comfortable Elementary School Acoustics
Designed by Bünger Ingenieure, the renovation included the extension of the capacity to the second floor, a new atrium, and an upgrade of the fire protection system.
The atrium is designed to be a multi-purpose learning space for gatherings, lessons, and events. In such large and high-traffic spaces in educational facilities, excess noise caused by crowds of students can interrupt learning and cause discomfort. Manuela Bünger, consultant at Bünger Ingenieure, recommended a mix of Rockfon acoustic solutions to meet the requirements in this space.
Installers Laudan Innenausbau und Akustikbau installed a total of 336 Rockfon Contour baffles, six Rockfon Eclipse acoustic islands in the Circle shape with a diameter of 1200 millimetres, and eight with a diameter of 800 millimetres. The circular suspended lighting fixtures selected for the space interplay with the acoustic solutions to further establish the walls and ceilings as compelling focal points and develop modern elementary school design.
Together, the acoustic solutions reduce reverberation and allow for environments that foster focus and comfort.
